WishFin’s WhatsApp Service Gets You the Score. Not the Report.
You can check your CIBIL score on WhatsApp through WishFin — an authorized CIBIL distribution partner. It takes 3-5 minutes and gives you a 3-digit score for free.
What it gives you: Your CIBIL score number (e.g., 756).
What it does NOT give you: The detailed credit report — no account list, no DPD payment history, no inquiry section, no dispute option. The score without the report is like a blood pressure reading without the full health checkup.
If your goal is a quick score check, WhatsApp works. If you are preparing for a loan application, checking for errors, or investigating a score drop, you need the full report from cibil.com or alternatives.
Step-by-Step: Check CIBIL Score on WhatsApp
Step 1: Give a Missed Call
Call 8287-151-151 from your mobile and let it ring once or twice. Disconnect. WishFin’s system registers your number.
Step 2: WhatsApp Chat Opens
Within 1-2 minutes, you will receive a WhatsApp message from WishFin’s verified business account. The chat will guide you through the process.
Step 3: Enter Your Details
The chatbot asks for information one by one:
- Full Name (as on PAN card)
- Gender
- Date of Birth
- PAN Number
- Residential Address
- Email ID
Type each response in the chat when prompted. Double-check your PAN — a wrong digit means no score.
Step 4: Enter OTP
An OTP is sent to the mobile number registered with CIBIL (this may differ from the WhatsApp number). Enter the OTP in the WhatsApp chat.
Step 5: View Your Score
Your 3-digit CIBIL score appears in the chat. That is the end of what WhatsApp provides.
For the detailed report: WishFin will prompt you to register on their website. The full Credit Information Report (CIR) — with account details, DPD history, inquiry list — is available only through their website or app, not WhatsApp.
What the WhatsApp Score Misses (And Why It Matters)
Knowing your score is 740 tells you very little about loan readiness. Here is what the full report shows that WhatsApp does not:
| Information | Available on WhatsApp? | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| 3-digit CIBIL Score | Yes | Basic eligibility indicator |
| Account-wise details | No | Shows each loan, credit card, BNPL account |
| DPD payment history (36 months) | No | Reveals if any payments were late — even once |
| Account status (Closed/Settled/Written Off) | No | A “Settled” account kills loan chances even at 750+ |
| Hard inquiry list | No | Shows which lenders checked your report |
| Total credit limit and utilization | No | Reveals if utilization is too high |
| Dispute filing option | No | Cannot correct errors from WhatsApp |
| CIBIL Score 2.0 vs 1.0 version | No | Different banks use different versions |
The Dangerous Scenario
You check on WhatsApp: score is 752. You feel confident and apply for a home loan. The bank pulls the full report and finds:
- A “Settled” personal loan from 2023 that you forgot about
- Amazon Pay Later showing as an active unsecured loan
- 3 hard inquiries from credit card applications last month
Result: Rejected despite 752 score. The number looked fine. The report did not.
This is why a score-only check creates false confidence. Always pull the full report from all 4 bureaus before any major loan application.
Is the WhatsApp Check Safe? Data Privacy Assessment
| Aspect | Assessment |
|---|---|
| Is WishFin legitimate? | Yes — RBI-registered financial marketplace, authorized CIBIL partner |
| Is the score accurate? | Yes — pulled directly from TransUnion CIBIL servers |
| Is it a soft inquiry? | Yes — zero score impact |
| Is your data shared? | WishFin’s terms allow use of your data for marketing (loan offers, credit card recommendations) |
| Can you opt out of marketing? | Unclear from the WhatsApp flow — check WishFin’s privacy policy |
| Is it CIBIL’s official service? | No — CIBIL does not offer WhatsApp-based score checks |
If data privacy matters to you: Check directly on cibil.com (1 free report per year) or through your bank app which already has your KYC. Both give you the full report without sharing your PAN with a third-party platform.
All CIBIL Score Check Methods Compared (2026)
| Method | Score | Full Report | Free? | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp (WishFin) | Yes | No | Free | Quick check when you just want the number |
| cibil.com | Yes | Yes | 1/year free, then Rs 550 | Full report with dispute filing. Most authoritative. |
| Paisabazaar | Yes | Summary | Free (monthly) | Regular monitoring without paying CIBIL |
| OneScore App | Yes (CIBIL + Experian) | Summary | Free | Dual bureau scores in one place |
| SBI YONO / HDFC / ICICI App | Yes | Limited | Free (for account holders) | Convenience — already have the app |
| BHIM App (new April 2026) | Yes | Basic | Free | UPI users who want a quick check |
| Google Pay | Yes | No | Free | Casual check within payment app |
| RBI Free Annual Report | N/A | Yes (all 4 bureaus) | Free (1/year each) | Comprehensive annual credit health audit |
Recommended stack: Check WhatsApp or OneScore monthly for the score. Pull the full cibil.com report once before any loan application. Use the RBI free annual report to check all 4 bureaus once a year.
BHIM App CIBIL Check: The New Alternative (April 2026)
Since April 2026, BHIM app users can check their CIBIL score directly within the app. This is a newer and less-known option:
How to access: Open BHIM app → Navigate to Services or Profile section → Look for “Credit Score” or “CIBIL Score” option → Authenticate with existing UPI credentials.
Advantages over WhatsApp:
- No need to share PAN with a third-party — BHIM already has your KYC
- Integrated into NPCI’s infrastructure — more trust than a fintech platform
- Shows basic report details beyond just the score number
Limitation: Full detailed report with DPD history and dispute filing is still not available — you need cibil.com for that.
When WhatsApp Check Is Enough vs When It Is Not
WhatsApp score check is enough when:
- You want a monthly pulse check on your score direction
- You are not applying for any loan in the next 3 months
- You just want to confirm your score is above 750 for general awareness
WhatsApp score check is NOT enough when:
- Applying for a home loan or car loan — pull full report from cibil.com, check for Settled/Written Off accounts, verify DPD history
- Score dropped unexpectedly — you need the full report to identify the trigger (7 hidden triggers for score drops)
- Suspecting errors or fraud — only the full report shows unauthorized accounts or inquiries (how to lock Aadhaar to prevent ghost loans)
- Disputing incorrect information — dispute filing requires cibil.com login (dispute process guide)
- Comparing scores across bureaus — WhatsApp only shows CIBIL, but some banks check Experian or CRIF (which bank checks which bureau)
Common Issues and Fixes
”I gave a missed call but no WhatsApp message came”
- Ensure WhatsApp is installed on the same number you called from
- Wait up to 5 minutes — the system can be slow during peak hours
- Try calling again — sometimes the first missed call does not register
- Check if your WhatsApp blocks messages from unknown numbers (Business accounts)
“OTP is not coming”
- The OTP goes to the mobile number registered with CIBIL, which may be different from your WhatsApp number
- If you changed your phone number since taking your last loan, your CIBIL-registered number is the old one
- Update your mobile number on cibil.com before retrying
”Score shows NA or NH or -1”
- NA/NH = No History — you have never taken a loan or credit card. This is not a bad score; it means no credit file exists.
- -1 = Not enough credit history (less than 6 months of any credit product)
- To build a score from zero, see our credit score bootstrapping guide
”WhatsApp shows 740 but my bank app shows 720”
- Normal variation. Different platforms pull at different dates within the reporting cycle.
- Check if the bank app shows CIBIL or another bureau (Experian/CRIF).
- A 10-20 point difference is expected and not a concern.
- Over 30 points different? Check both bureau reports for discrepancies.
The Bottom Line
WhatsApp CIBIL check is convenient but incomplete. It gives you a number in 3 minutes — useful for a quick pulse check.
But the number alone cannot tell you why your score is what it is, whether errors are dragging it down, or whether hidden account statuses will cause a loan rejection.
For any serious financial decision — home loan, car loan, job application that checks credit — always pull the full report from cibil.com or one of the 5 free methods. The 10 minutes it takes to read the full report can save you from a rejection that the WhatsApp score did not warn you about.
