India's first answer-first personal finance site. No ads, no affiliates, no sponsored opinions.
Indian personal finance content is broken. Every article reads like it was written to sell you something — usually a credit card, a ULIP, or a mutual fund through a hidden affiliate link. HonestMoney.in exists because we got tired of it.
What we do
We publish dense, data-backed answers to personal finance questions Indians actually ask. Real rupee amounts. Real bank-by-bank comparisons. Real tax math. No ten-paragraph introductions before the answer.
Our content covers mutual funds, income tax, health insurance, term insurance, credit cards, home loans, education loans, stocks, crypto, credit score, EPF and retirement, and other topics relevant to Indian households.
Our editorial principles
No affiliate links. Ever.
When we recommend a mutual fund, a credit card, or a bank, you can be sure we earn nothing from your decision. Every product mention is editorially chosen, not commercially motivated.
No sponsored content.
We do not accept money to feature a product, a bank, an AMC, or any financial brand. If you see a brand mentioned on this site, it is because the data warranted the mention.
Answer-first writing.
Lead with the number. Then the explanation. Then the caveats. No "in this article we will explore..." filler. If you came looking for an EMI figure, the EMI figure is in the first paragraph.
Free data sources only.
We rely only on publicly available data: AMFI NAV feeds, AMC factsheets, BSE/NSE filings, RBI publications, IRDAI disclosures, CBDT circulars, Income Tax Act sections, Budget documents. No paywalled data platforms, no insider sources, no industry analyst feeds.
Tables over paragraphs.
For rate comparisons, fee structures, scheme eligibility, and feature matrices — we use tables. Reading the actual numbers should take less time than reading our explanation of the numbers.
Built for SEO and AI search engines (AEO).
Our content is structured for Google search, Bing, and AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini. Schema markup, FAQ schema, and clear semantic structure on every page.
What we do not do
- → We do not give personalised financial advice. Our content is general information, not regulated investment advice under SEBI or IRDAI frameworks. For decisions involving large amounts or complex situations, consult a SEBI-registered investment advisor.
- → We do not predict markets. No price targets, no "next big stock", no "this fund will give 30 percent returns". When we discuss returns, we use historical data with the appropriate caveats.
- → We do not write fluff. If a topic can be covered in 800 words, we cover it in 800 words. If it requires 4,000 words to be useful, we write 4,000.
- → We do not sell leads. We do not pass user data to banks, brokers, insurance agents, or lead-generation networks. We do not even use third-party advertising trackers.
Who writes this
Every article is bylined "HonestMoney.in Editorial Team". Our editorial team brings together backgrounds in financial services, software engineering, tax practice, and personal finance journalism. We deliberately do not foreground individual authors because the content is what matters — not the author's social media following.
Every article is fact-checked against primary regulatory sources before publication. Every rate, fee, and date is dated. When facts change (and in personal finance, they change often), we update the article and the "dateModified" timestamp.
How we sustain ourselves
HonestMoney.in is part of Velm, a product company building independent media and tools. We sustain the editorial work through other Velm products and projects — not through ads, affiliates, or sponsored content on this site.
This separation is deliberate. The site exists as a public resource. Its business model does not depend on the content saying nice things about any financial product.
